Rotork Process Controls, at ACHEMA 2012, Hall 8.0, Stand A76., will be demonstrating the benefits of all-electric control valve actuation as represented by the proven and established CVA range and the recently introduced CMA (Compact Modulating Actuator).
A working demonstration unit on the stand compares CVA and CMA electric actuation with the traditional pneumatic approach to illustrate the operating advantages, reduced costs and user-friendly features that are enabled by all-electric control. The demonstration also highlights the hidden costs associated with pneumatic operation.
As well as eliminating the inherent running and maintenance costs demanded by an instrument air supply, Rotork CVA/CMA actuation technologies introduce maintenance-free operation, simple and intuitive set-up, internal position feedback and no recalibration requirement within a reduced overall valve package size and a fully sealed watertight enclosure. The advantages and economies provided by these rugged all-electric ‘fit-and-forget’ products have been proven in environments as diverse as power stations, oil refineries, food factories and mineral plants.

12.5 µs cycle time, continuously maintained from the PLC to the I/O signals: This is eXtreme Fast Control – XFC. With the presentation at Hannover Messe 2012, Beckhoff was underlining its technological leadership in fast control technology. The components for this record-breaking system are: a high-performance CPU – a Beckhoff Industrial PC with control software to match – TwinCAT 3; ultra-fast I/O components – with 1 µs latency; and naturally the fast Industrial Ethernet system – EtherCAT.
The Carmel Riviera Mutual Water Company believed it was losing big. Historical estimates indicated that more than 30% of this small, independent water company’s production was going down the drain through leaks, waste, evaporation and other types of loss. The company budgeted almost $60,000 per year in initiatives to reduce these leaks, including labor and materials for surveys and expensive repairs.
