Daelim Wins USD 710 Million Project to Construct Saudi Arabia’s Synthetic Rubber Production Plant

Daelim announced on June 26, 2012 that it received LOA for the Kemya Saudi Elastomers Project worth USD 710 million (KRW 830 billion) including the local subsidiary’s stake from Saudi Arabia’s Al Jubail Petrochemical Company. The project involves building a synthetic rubber plant in Jubail Industrial Complex located in the eastern part of Saudi Arabia. The order to build the plant was placed in a total of six packages, with Daelim winning 3. The project will be implemented via EPC lump sum turnkey mode, i.e., Daelim will be responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction.

For this project, a plant that can annually produce 400,000 tons of various high-performance synthetic rubber types will be constructed. Daelim is slated to construct indirect support facilities and auxiliary facilities (utilities & offsites) for plant operation such as production plants for carbon black, which is used as black additive for car tires (annual capacity: 50,000 tons), and for the polybutene used to manufacture lubricants and synthetic rubber (annual capacity: 102,000 tons). Al Jubail Petrochemical Company is a joint venture invested in by Saudi’s state petrochemical company, SABIC, and US multinational petrochemical corporation Exxon Mobil having 50% stake each.

Mitsubishi to release MC Works64, an advanced SCADA software

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today it will release MC Works64, an advanced SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) software package, in October 2012. MC Works64, an upgraded version of MC Works, will be a component of MELViz iQ PlantSuite, an integrated supervisory automation control and monitoring system solution Mitsubishi Electric has been developing to expand its business in the social infrastructure market overseas.

MC Works64 SCADA software features 64-bit 3D graphics and is capable of displaying plant system configurations in 360-degree perspectives. It also contains MC AppBuilder, a feature allowing users to easily set up and carry out the monitoring of plant systems and energy consumption. MC AppBuilder combines a variety of features for superb ease of use and functionality: a database with which users can easily file and sort information on graphics like symbols and faceplates, control programs such as programmable logic controller (PLC) function blocks and various types of communication interfaces; and functions to automatically generate monitoring screens, PLC programs and OPC communication settings. MC AppBuilder is expected to lead to substantial reductions in engineering and system setup costs for system integrators.

New Dual-Port EtherNet/IP I/O Adapters Help Improve User Experience

MILWAUKEE, July 2, 2012 — Machine and equipment manufacturers (OEMs), system integrators and end users with demanding applications look to simplify network design while maintaining resiliency. The new Allen-Bradley FLEX I/O dual-port EtherNet/IP adapters from Rockwell Automation achieve this goal – helping OEMs connect machines to their end customers’ IT infrastructures using a single network. With the dual ports, users can also leverage the adapter to display diagnostics via a simple Web browser, helping reduce troubleshooting and downtime.

The new EtherNet/IP adapters support a device-level ring (DLR) topology, which provides robust network infrastructure and extremely fast recovery time, while keeping implementation cost down. DLR infrastructures are connected at the end device versus the switch. With no need for unnecessary switches and cabling, users can reduce design time and simplify implementation.

Kepware Delivers Industrial Automation for the Oil & Gas Industry

Kepware Technologies announced today its new KEPServerEX 5.9 industrial automation communications platform for the Oil and Gas Industry. New EFM (Electronic Flow Measurement) capabilities and WITS (Wellsite Information Transfer Specification) Level 0 Drivers ensure systems and devices supporting pipelines, wells, and drilling rigs can easily gather and share vital operational information. The new solutions help improve operational efficiencies while reducing production costs and data inconsistencies.

"Traditional EFM and WITS are critical, enabling technologies for the Oil and Gas Industry. However, rapid industry growth is forcing these solutions to be able to connect to a widening portfolio of products," according to Craig Resnick, Vice President of Consulting, ARC Advisory Group. "These offerings provide a critical portion of the Oil and Gas industry's production data; the need for greater clarity and context must be met through tighter integration of systems and information. In response to this market demand, Kepware has expanded its KEPServerEX 5.9 communications platform to ensure this data and information, especially from flow devices and computers, along with the drilling infrastructure, is appropriately connected and distributed throughout the enterprise."

KBR Selected to Execute Two FLNG Studies for Höegh LNG

KBR (NYSE:KBR) recently announced  that it has been selected as Höegh’s preferred engineer to execute pre-FEED studies for two of its projects off the coast of Israel and offshore Australia.

KBR will provide the pre-FEED study for the King liquefied natural gas-floating production storage and offloading (LNG-FPSO) facility currently being evaluated for Noble Energy's giant Tamar gas field off the coast of Israel. KBR has developed FPSOs that are in use worldwide and is recognized as one of the world's leading providers of onshore LNG plants and FPSOs.

Höegh LNG awarded KBR a second FLNG pre-FEED study for an unnamed project offshore Australia. The four-month pre-FEED is intended to provide a Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimate for a two mtpa FLNG facility to enable further evaluation of the project. KBR will perform a cost estimate study, taking Höegh’s existing generic LNG FPSO FEED study and adapting the capex cost for the operator’s field-specific basis of design. Should the project economics prove viable, FEED could start as early as 4Q 2012.
