CMA actuator increases the scope of Rotork’s advanced electric control valve technology

Rotork Process Controls has launched a new range of compact, robust and reliable electric actuators for control valves, regulators and other continuous modulating applications. The CMA (Compact Modulating Actuator) extends the scope of Rotork’s proven technologies and the benefits inherent in the innovative Rotork CVA electric control valve actuator range. The CMA range increases the areas of flow control that can take advantage of these advanced features.

The Rotork CMA is available in linear, quarter-turn and multi-turn versions and a range of five compact sizes, facilitating the economical operation of numerous types of control valve, damper and pump stroke adjuster applications. Single-phase or DC electrical power supply is all that is required for control valve actuation, saving the on-going costs associated with the operation and maintenance of instrument air supplies.

The maintenance-free CMA drive train, permanently lubricated and protected in an IP67 watertight and, where required, explosionproof enclosure, can be mounted in any orientation. Accepting an industry-standard 4 -20mA command signal, the CMA delivers accurate and repeatable positional control. Resolution is 0.25% on linear and quarter-turn applications and 2 degrees on the multi-turn configuration.

Continuous and unrestricted modulating performance is provided by a brushless DC motor, magnetic contactless sensors and a lubricated for life drive train.

QP and TOTAL sign project agreement on carbonates acid stimulation

Doha, Qatar, 7 May 2012 – Qatar Petroleum and Total today signed a research and technology project agreement on carbonates acid stimulation.

This project aims at increasing hydrocarbons production in Qatar by addressing a major concern in carbonates oil and gas fields -- improving significantly the efficiency of acid stimulation. Hydrocarbons geological reservoirs are carbonates reservoirs in Qatar.

These carbonates dissolve in acid. Thus, the main idea of this project is simple: injecting acid in wells dissolves a part of the rocks, thus improving the permeability of the reservoirs and, hence, the productivity of the producing wells. The joint research between QP and Total will especially focus on highly permeability contrasted formations and, at the same time, mitigate unwanted water production.

The project inaugurates the general technical partnership established within the Technology Cooperation Framework Agreement signed by QP and Total in November 2011. The two companies will work together, having a joint team in the domain of well acid stimulation in the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), which is an entity of the Qatar Foundation.
