Foster Wheeler Awarded PMC Contract for Cilacap Refinery Upgrade in Indonesia

ZUG, Switzerland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 27, 2012-- Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq: FWLT) announced today that a subsidiary of its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded a contract by PT Pertamina (Persero) ("Pertamina"), the national oil company of the Republic of Indonesia, to provide project management consultancy services for the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC) Project at the Cilacap Refinery, on the island of Java, Indonesia. Foster Wheeler will manage the engineering, procurement and construction contractor on behalf of Pertamina. The value of Foster Wheeler's contract was not disclosed and will be included in the company's first-quarter 2012 bookings.

The RFCC project is intended to build a 62,000 barrels per day (BPD) RCC Complex, which includes a RFCC, a new LPG MeroxTM unit (Merox is a trademark of UOP LLC), and propylene recovery and gasoline hydrotreating units. The addition of an RFCC unit should enable the refinery to increase fuel production, especially fuel-air high-octane fuels intended to meet European Union EURO IV quality specifications. Production of liquid petroleum gases is also expected to be increased by 350,000 tons per annum (TPA), and the refinery also plans to produce in excess of 140,000 TPA of propylene. The upgrade is expected to be completed in 2014.

Siemens to provide IPS composting system in China

Warrendale, Pennsylvania, USA, 2012-Mar-26:  Guodian Northeast Environmental Protection Industry Group, Ltd. has selected Siemens Industry Automation Division to supply an IPS composting system using the new Mechanically Enhanced Biodrying (MEB) process for the Shenyang Wastewater Treatment Plant Sludge Treatment Project in Shenyang, China. It will be the largest IPS composting facility ever built, and one of the largest sludge treatment processes in the world using non-thermal processing. The IPS composting system is scheduled to be commissioned in the fall of 2012.

The IPS system for Guodian in Shenyang will be used in a new sludge treatment facility that will serve three existing wastewater treatment plants and one new plant. The plants have been landfilling or land applying wet (20% solids) sludge. China recently passed a law that sludge must be a minimum of 60% solids for land application and/or landfill disposal.

Popular ISA Book Expands Coverage on Fieldbus Communications

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA (27 March 2012) – The International Society of Automation (ISA) announces that it has produced a new technical publication, Foundation Fieldbus, Fourth Edition, by Ian Verhappen and Augusto Pereira.

The fourth edition of Foundation Fieldbus significantly expands the subject matter of the earlier editions of this popular book, not only to help readers stay current with this evolving technology, but also to enhance their understanding of Fieldbus. This edition provides in-depth coverage on Fieldbus communications and configuration, including calculation of macrocycle for Control-in-Field and in the host system and how the different forms of communication on the H1 Network work with each other to make Control-in-Field possible, including the use of these different methods to optimize network bandwidth.

More comprehensive step-by-step procedures are discussed for each stage of a typical Foundation™ Fieldbus installation: inspection and electric commissioning to ensure cable integrity, H1 Network commissioning, configuration and communications tests in the segments and spurs. Several new photographs and explanations help emphasize the proper installation procedures so readers can quickly identify and prevent potential problems when installing Fieldbus systems.

Challenges of Gas Purity Measurements

How the measurement of gas purity plays an important role across multiple gas processing industries and applications, mainly for the purpose of detecting gas impurities across a particular process. For example, in chemical reactions, one has to ensure the gases are free of carbon monoxide (CO) because of the risk of poisoning precious catalysts, oxygen (O2) might oxidize catalysts, and carbon dioxide (CO2) might form carbamates or carbonates which may clog process gas lines and lead to costly repairs.

Siemens to supply integrated solution for process and wastewater in Colombian refinery

The Siemens Industry Automation Division is to equip the Reficar refinery in Cartagena, Colombia, with an integrated water treatment solution. It will form the heart of a combined system for treating both process and waste water. Siemens technologies will be applied to prepare river water for use as boiler feed water, and to purify wastewater before discharge, for example. The order is worth over thirty million US dollars. It is part of a project to expand and modernize the refinery, which is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2013.

Water is required for a number of steps in the refining process. Siemens will supply a multi-component solution for treating the process water in the Reficar refinery. These include contact basins for softening the water and a J-Press filter press for thickening the accumulated primary sludge. Siemens will also provide plants for desalinating the boiler feed water and treating waste lye. The condensate is to be cleaned with granular, active charcoal filters.
