Smar AuditFlow gets NMi certification

Smar AuditFlow V7 has been granted another important certification in the legal metrology area. In addition to INMETRO approval, the system now has certification from NMi, the technical agency located in Dordrecht, Netherlands. This certification complies with the Measuring Instruments Directive (2004/22/EC) responsible for the area in Europe. The directive was issued on April 2004 and the legal implementation measure has a transition period from October 2006 to October 2016. The great novelty in the new legislation is the approval of a model with automatic validity in all European Union countries. Prior to it, the model approval was required by the metrology agency of each country.

The certification is compulsory for a flow computer that will be used on flow measurement system at the European Union. Besides, many countries use the certificate to issue a local certificate, as only a few laboratories or bodies in the world are competent to perform the process. Even countries that do not adopt the model approval process for a flow computer, like the U.S. for example, will benefit from the reliability and the credibility that the NMi enjoys in this area.

The change is very small in relation to the version approved by INMETRO and the equipment hardware is the same. The alterations on the software are related to parameters added to comply with OIML R117-1, EN12405-1 and Welmec 7.2 standards.

The principal AuditFlow V.7 features are:

  • Use of the Foundation Fieldbus H1 and HSE protocols while eliminating the A/D and D/A converters, thus favoring the reduction of uncertainties on the measurement system. Furthermore, it provides rich diagnostics information that only this protocol offers, which are so important in SCADA systems, as the operation and maintenance teams are increasingly smaller.
  • Meets a number of substances for pressure and temperature compensation: crude oil, refined products, special applications (MTBE), lubricant oil, GLP, crude oil and water emulsion, ethanol, natural gas, steam, humid steam, argon, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, ammonia and others.
  • Advanced features for applications on well tests and appropriation measurement, providing analysis of the well life cycle and the effects of the methods of recuperation used.
  • Meet applications on the area of exploration and productions, refine and distribution in SCADA system.
  • The HFCView software tool provides monitoring, parameterization and management of reports. Allows high level analysis of a large amount of information, which is stored in database.

The AuditFlow market at large is the entire production, refining and distribution chain of oil and gas. But the flow computer is employed on any application for custody transference (buy/sell, payment taxes and royalties) of fluids (liquid or gaseous state) in flow measurement systems.

“This certification is an evidence of the quality and competence of SMAR hardware and software projects” states Sergio Tateishi, Electronic Development Engineer, the responsible for the project. “The equipment hardware underwent severe EMC temperature and vibration/shock tests. The software investigation included the analysis of complex compensation calculus in temperature and pressure of the fluids measured, as well as demanding characteristics in terms of information diagnostics, reliability and traceability “, concludes Sergio.

Technip awarded FEED contract for a new biomass-to-liquid plant in Finland

Technip has been awarded by Forest BtL Oy a contract, worth approximately €5 million, for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) of a new second generation biomass-to-liquid* (BTL) plant to be built on Ajos island, Finland. This plant will produce approximately 140,000 tons of biodiesel and naphtha from wood and by-products from the wood-processing industry. This feedstock has many advantages as it is not used for human food, it does not jeopardize the existing local biomass usage and has a low CO2 footprint.

Technip will develop the process design package of the hydrogen production unit of the plant, based on its steam reformer proprietary technology, and will prepare the FEED for the hydrogen production, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and refining units.

Technip’s operating center in Lyon, France, together with the Group’s hydrogen technology center in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed in the first semester of 2014.

The Ajos BtL project is supported by the European Union NER300 funding program for innovative renewable energy technologies. This project will be an industrial first and will reinforce Technip’s leading position on new generation biofuels projects.

Micropilot Level Measurement in liquids and solids by Endress+Houser

The new standard in radar instrumentation – the Micropilot family: Safe, precise, efficientThe new Micropilot family comprises a total of seven device types – from the standard product for basic applications through to high-performance versions for sophisticated high-pressure or high-temperature applications.

Endress+Hauser as full-range supplier supports you with innovative field instrument solutions. With more than one million installed instruments of the Time-of-Flight method, we offer you the know-how as world market leader. Our instruments create new standards so that you can concentrate completely on your processes and requirements.

The new instrument generation provides safety, precision and efficiency across the entire life cycle for you. This will seamlessly optimize your production and safety processes during the full life cycle of your plant.

Functional safety

The hardware and software of the new generation of Time-of-Flight instrumentation is developed according to- IEC61508 and can be used up to SIL3 in homogeneous redundancy. Using continuous self-monitoring, Micropilot always checks its correct functionality within the measuring instrument. If a failure occurs, the instrument changes to its safety status. The proof test can easily be started by an optional operating tool or directly from the control room. The communication in between the setup tooling via DTM and the device is permanently monitored.

HistoROM data management concept

The innovative and intelligent HistoROM data management concept stores the parameters of an instrument during commissioning. If similar measuring points are commissioned, the display serves as a data carrier like a USB stick.

If electronics are defective, they must be replaced by new electronics. HistoROM has stored all parameter settings and transfers the data automatically to the electronics and the instrument restarts operation.

  • Increased data safety
  • High plant availability
  • Easy measuring point multiplication
  • Safe and easy exchange of electronics
  • Data storage of diagnostic events
  • Multi-Echo Tracking analysis of echo signals

Endress+Hauser has developed an even more intelligent and reliable echo signal evaluation by the echo signal curve – Multi-Echo Tracking. If obstacles, e.g. heating coils, protrude into the signal path these interfering signals must be suppressed, so that they are not analyzed. The problem of the traditional evaluation is that level signals below the suppression cannot be analyzed and thus can cause signal losses. Innovative Multi-Echo Tracking offers the solution. All of the echo signals are marked and traced, not only the level signal. This guarantees safe and precise measurement!
