Agilent Technologies Enhances Dissolution Workstation Software for greater Control in Pharmaceutical

Agilent Technologies has introduced an enhanced version of its Dissolution Workstation Software, providing better data integration, method change control and instrument monitoring for controlling multiple dissolution systems. Dissolution is a technique used in the pharmaceutical industry to determine the rate at which pure active pharmaceutical ingredients dissolve.

The software supports laboratory capabilities to build, edit, search, retrieve, execute and archive all dissolution methods and test reports from a single interface. To improve efficiency, the new features allow users to:

  • Consolidate and maintain electronic data in one location, with options for exporting information into a laboratory information management system or into business tools such as SAP Crystal Reports or Microsoft Excel.
  • Monitor the dissolution apparatus for vibration, environmental impacts and failure investigation assistance when using the optional Instrument Module.
  • Comply with the latest enhanced mechanical qualification guidelines, including verifying accessories prior to each test.
  • Add an automated system-cleaning cycle to the end of each method, extending the life of dissolution equipment.

ISA introduces ISA Cybersecurity Tech Pack, a downloadable collection of its latest technical papers

To help manufacturers and plant and facility operators improve their cybersecurity defenses and better confront the growing dangers of cyberwarfare, the International Society of Automation (ISA) today announces the availability of the ISA Cybersecurity Tech Pack.

“The ISA Cybersecurity Tech Pack is an assembly of the latest technical papers, PowerPoint presentations, technical books and InTech articles developed by some of the world’s leading experts in cybersecurity and industrial automation and control systems security,” says Susan Colwell, manager of publications development at ISA. “These materials—which can be downloaded from the ISA website—include the latest cybersecurity strategies, recommendations and tools that can immediately be applied to protect your industrial control systems and process control networks.”

As a widely recognized, world leader in cybersecurity standards development, training and educational resources, ISA provides the proven technical expertise and know-how to help safeguard industrial automation and control systems.

For instance, the ANSI/ISA99 (IEC 62443), Industrial Automation and Control Systems Security standards—developed by a cross-section of international cybersecurity subject-matter experts from industry, government and academia—represent a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity in all industry sectors. ISA and its sister organization, the Automation Federation, is currently assisting the Obama administration and US federal agency officials develop the initial version of a national cybersecurity framework—as called for by President Obama in February of this year.

The ISA Cybersecurity Tech Pack also includes two cybersecurity-focused ISA books: the popular Industrial Network Security by David J. Teumim; and the recently introduced Industrial Automation and Control Systems Security Principles by Ronald L. Krutz, Ph.D. As an added bonus, the compilation includes many highly relevant and informative cybersecurity articles published in InTech magazine, ISA’s bi-monthly magazine for automation and control professionals.

Below is a complete list of what is included in the ISA Cybersecurity Tech Pack.

West Control Solutions launches new videos to explain key temperature control technologies

West Control Solutions is releasing a series of informative and explanatory videos, the first of their kind to discuss temperature control technologies.  The videos will prove to be a great benefit in helping customers to specify and install the most efficient temperature control solutions.

The first video in the series features Ian Parnell, Head of Technical Support (Europe) at West Control Solutions, who explains On/Off Control and Proportional Control in detail and clearly lays out the differences between the two.  Ian discusses where the two types of controls can be used and how proportional controls can be used with devices that can only be either on or off.  Ian also gets to grips with matters such as how on/off control systems can affect the level of process oscillation, and whether the user has to compromise either the life expectancy of the components or the precision of control when using this method.

As both systems have different advantages and considerations, this discussion is useful to anyone who is considering either type of control system but has not yet developed a full understanding of the factors involved and the differences between them.

No other manufacturer in the control systems industry has yet provided audiences with a video of this kind that discuss and explain how control systems work and their suitability to a viewer’s application.  The next two videos in the series will cover different types of temperature control alarms and consider in detail the alarm inhibitor function. The videos will answer key questions and concerns that surround their respective themes and provide a great resource for explaining how the technologies work with work-in-practise examples.

The video can be viewed at the West Control Systems YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nun33W0ByME
