HMI/SCADA Software and Services Market Driven by New Features, Mobility, and Technology

The global HMI/SCADA (Human Machine Interface and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) software and services market is experiencing good growth and evolutionary change. The marketplace is seeking HMI/SCADA software and services that enable convergence of industrial, building, and energy automation into a single information platform. There is also a desire for integrating HMI/SCADA software solutions with enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI) analytics to provide better visibility for all aspects of both plant and factory resource usage, according to a new ARC Advisory Group study.

HMI/SCADA Software and Services Global BusinessThe market is making broader use of HMI/SCADA software visualization to improve business decision making, and distributing real-time data to all levels of the manufacturing organizations through workflow and other complementary technologies. “Many companies are adopting the use of mobile devices, some of which are even owned by their employees as part of BYOD programs, for remote visualization, leveraging thin-client technologies and platforms for HMI/SCADA access from any global location. This trend is one of the driving forces for HMI/SCADA software and services market growth,” according to ARC Vice President Craig Resnick, the principal author of ARC’s “Human Machine Interface Software and Services Global Market Research Study”.

Advantech announces ADAM-4000 and ADAM-6000 Series Have Received UL Certification

The Industrial Automation Group of Advantech has announced its remote I/O modules – ADAM-4000 Series and ADAM-6000 Series have been certified with Class I, Division 2 Groups A, B, C, D approval, for use in hazardous locations, i.e. gas, mining, oil or petrochemical industry where highly flammable substances may be produced, processed, stored, and transported to ensure the safety of the industrial facility. Certified for use in the oil and gas industries, the Advantech ADAM-4000 Series and ADAM-6000 Series are Class 1, Division 2 certified meaning that it won’t cause explosions if gases, vapors and liquids are present.

The National Electrical Code (NEC) defines hazardous locations as the areas “where fire or explosion hazards may exist due to flammable gases or vapors, flammable liquids, combustible dust, or ignitable fibers.” Hazardous locations are classified in three ways by the NEC: Type, Condition, and Nature. Class I locations are areas where flammable gases may be present in sufficient quantities to produce explosive or flammable mixtures. Division 2 is an environment where flammable gases, vapors, liquids, combustible dusts or ignitable fibers are not likely to exist under normal operating conditions.

Advantech’s remote I/O modules, including repeaters, converters, and both RS-485-based and Ethernet-based remote data acquisition modules, provide ideal industrial automation, control, and measurement solutions for harsh environments and demanding applications. What’s more, with a wide operating temperature range and multiple mounting methods, Advantech’s ADAM series can be implemented across diverse applications, making the systems always connected and reliable.

Fluor/JGC Joint Venture Awarded FEED Work by Anadarko for New LNG Project in Mozambique

Fluor Corporation and JGC Corporation announced today that their 50/50 joint venture was awarded a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract by Anadarko Moçambique Area 1 Limitada for an onshore natural gas liquefaction facility in the Republic of Mozambique. The project will be located in the Cabo Delgado Province, 2,000 kilometers northeast of Mozambique’s capital, Maputo. Fluor will book its portion of the contract in the first quarter 2013.

The FEED will deliver designs for the initial phase of the Mozambique LNG project of four trains, each train capable of producing 5 million metric tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas (20 MMTPA total). The project has the potential to expand its capacity up to approximately 50 MMTPA of LNG in the future. This facility is the first LNG project in Mozambique. The feedstock comes from offshore production facilities at Offshore Area 1, operated by Anadarko, and Offshore Area 4, operated by Eni. The first LNG cargo is targeted for 2018.

“In the region, this is an important and strategic win for both joint venture parent companies,” said Peter Oosterveer, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group. “We brought together a talented and experienced team that leverages the combined strengths of JGC’s industry-leading LNG experience with Fluor’s 50-plus year reputation for executing large complex projects in sub-Saharan Africa.”
